Operations tools[edit | edit source]

The tools described in this section have been designed to manipulate and copy existing nodes.

Add Objects to Group (Shortcut G)[edit | edit source]

Used to add nodes to an existing group which can be toggled between visible and hidden.
Important note:
You need to create a group first before you can use the tool. Click the Plus- Icon to create a new group. Groups can be added in the expanded Group Manager. From the row of group tool buttons you can Add, Delete or Edit a group. Besides the usual show / hide, you can also lock / unlock a group from editing, add or removing objects. The Groups table will now display whether it’s visible, locked, contains objects, and the group color (the default is black).
Group items that are relevant to the pattern to be made later in detail or that are not relevant that can be hidden when creating the detail. Keep the drawing board tidy while drafting.
Click on the first item and, while holding down the ctrl key, select all the other items to be included in the group (or drag over all the items to select a lot of items).

Press enter when done to complete the selection and select the group where you want to add the nodes

You can see the nodes you added to the group.

Below the Groups table is a objects list, which will display a list of the objects in the selected group. Double clicking on an object will Zoom to that object. Specifically - if it’s a point it will zoom to the point. If it’s an Arc / ElArc it will zoom to the center point. If it’s a line or curve it will zoom to the first point - usually the first point in the object name. Also if the object is hidden, the group’s visibility will be changed to show - even if it’s locked - so that the object is visible when zoomed to. The only exception to this (at this time) is with the operation tools such as move, rotate, mirror & dart.

Using the context menu on the objects list allows you to remove or move an object to another group.

You can add/remove nodes manually by right clicking on the nodes

The visibility of a group can be toggled by clicking on the Eye - Icon. By managing your nodes in groups you can keep your drawing board tidy so that you can focus on what you are busy with.

Rotate Selected Objects (Shortcut R)[edit | edit source]

Used to duplicate and rotate objects
Click on the first item and, while holding down the ctrl key, select all the other items to be included in the rotation (or drag over all the items to select a lot of items). Press enter when done to complete the selection. Select the node around which the items will be rotated. Drag the selection around until they are in the general direction where you’d like the rotated to and enter the precise angle or formula.
  • Rotation pt: Selected rotation point
  • Suffix: Suffix for the new points
Advice: Use the group manager to show/hide nodes as needed. Using the rotation tool will quickly add a lot of new nodes and clutter the screen. When editing the original objects, the copied and rotated objects will automatically adjust accordingly.

Mirror Objects by Line (Shortcut M, L)[edit | edit source]

Used to mirror objects from one side of a line to the other
Click on the first item and, while holding down the ctrl key, select all the other items to be included (or drag over all the items to select a lot of items). Press enter when done to complete the selection. Select the first and second nodes of the line
Important note:By clicking on nodes a second time for the mirror line will remove the selection of that node and you will need to click on it again to reselect it
  • First line point: First point auf the line
  • Second line point: Second point of the line
  • Suffix: Suffix for the new points
Advice: Use the group manager to show/hide nodes as needed. Using the rotation tool will quickly add a lot of new nodes and clutter the screen

Mirror Objects by Axis (Shortcut M, A)[edit | edit source]

Used to mirror objects from one side of an axis to the other
Click on the first item and, while holding down the ctrl key, select all the other items to be included (or drag over all the items to select a lot of items). Press enter when done to complete the selection. Select the axis node and choose holrizontal or vertical mirrow mode
  • Axis point: Axis point
  • Axis type: Vertical or Horizontal axis
  • Suffix: Suffix for the new points
Advice: Use the group manager to show/hide nodes as needed. Using the rotation tool will quickly add a lot of new nodes and clutter the screen

MoveObjects (Shortcut Alt+M)[edit | edit source]

Used to duplicate and move objects to a different part of the drawing area
Click on the first item and, while holding down the ctrl key, select all the other items to be included in the rotation (or drag over all the items to select a lot of items). Press enter when done to complete the selection. Drag the selection around to where you’d like to place them. You may enter direct distance and angle if you wish.

This tool is often used to check if the curves at the armholes/neck/crotch, etc. have a smooth transition

  • Suffix: Suffix for the new points
  • Origin Point: Select the point from where the move tool will start
  • Angle: Angle of the movement - You can define a fixed angle or use a formula for adaptive / calculated values
  • Length: Length of the movement - You can define a fixed length or use a formula for adaptive / calculated values
  • Rotation: Rotation of the selected nodes - You can define a fixed angle or use a formula for adaptive / calculated values
Advice: Use the group manager to show/hide nodes as needed. Using the rotation tool will quickly add a lot of new nodes and clutter the screen

True Darts (Shortcut T, D)[edit | edit source]

Used to create true darts of equal length and angle
Click on the first and second node of the base line and the three nodes of the dart. Draw in new lines connecting the new nodes
Important node:For the moment the tool works only with straight base lines. Further development needed to handle curved seams.
  • Point name 1: Name of the first result point
  • Point name 2: Name of the second result point
  • 1st base point: First point you selected
  • 2nd base point: Second point you selected
  • 1st dart point: Third point you selected
  • 2st dart point: Fourth point you selected
  • 3st dart point: Fifth point you selected

Export Drafts Block (Shortcut E, D)[edit | edit source]

Export visible nodes
Select a path where you want to save the visible nodes. You can select different file formats
Important node:All visible nodes are saved. Even those from inactive draft blocks
  • Path: Select a path where to save the file
  • Fileformat: Select a suitable file format.
  • File name: Select a proper file name
  • Quality: It sets the level of compression for those formats that use compression… like jpg. Not all fornats use compression. The more compression used the “quality” of the image degrades… ie it’s not as sharp.
