Roadmap

From Seamly

This page is actually more of a landmarkmap of the development of Seamly.

Implement the Seamly name - Top priority[edit | edit source]

The original project Valentina forked on August / September 2017. In November 2017 the new name "Seamly" was chosen for this fork. We have at least mostly finished implementing the new name.

This Roadmap presents all the aspects that are involved with the name being changed.

Web[edit | edit source]

For every web site / web presence, the name change includes :

  • new name throughout the site
    • if necessary with a short explanation about the forks.
  • new URL
    • with redirects from the old domain to the new domain.
  • links to the other websites
  • logo / design
  • Make contact with people who featured valentina on their web sites to inform them of the name change?
List of the websites / social media accounts:[edit | edit source]

Transifex[edit | edit source]

  • Seamly does not currently use Transifex. If you would like to help with translation, please contact the devs on the forum

Design[edit | edit source]

  • New logo
  • If necessary new main colors
  • Same design / branding throughout the web sites for a high recall value.

Builds[edit | edit source]

  • Create manual builds and automatic builds for Debian linux, OSX, and Windows using the old name - DONE
  • Create manual builds with new name for Debian linux, Mac OSX, and Windows
  • Implement automatic builds with TravisCI & Launchpad (for Ubuntu and Mac) and Appveyor (for Windows).
  • Release automated builds on website.

New builds can be found on the GitHub.

Source Code / Repo[edit | edit source]

  • Updating licensing, copyright - In progress
  • New repo URL

Seamly2D[edit | edit source]

As the core module of the Seamly suite, Seamly2D is currently receiving the most attention, to get it into top form. Here is the roadmap for Seamly2D.

New Features[edit | edit source]

Seamly3D[edit | edit source]

Seamly3D has not yet been created. If 3D development is up your alley, we would be pleased to have you as our lead Seamly3D dev. It will be a downstream module of the Seamly suite. Its purpose is to show the fit of a pattern on a body before actually cutting & sewing, thus eliminating the need for at least one toile/muslin. If it can export to formats readable by applications such as Second-Life or 3d gaming engines, so much the better!

SeamlyMe[edit | edit source]

SeamlyMe is the Measurements module of the Seamly pattern-drafting suite. It is the upstream module of the Seamly suite. It will be getting more pre-defined measurement types & improved GUI, but doesn't seem to need as much straightening out as the other modules. On the other hand, we would like to figure out using one of the more automated measuring systems with it.

SeamlyMk[edit | edit source]

SeamlyMk has not yet been created. It is being considered as the pattern-marking module of the Seamly suite. An abbreviated form of its planned functions are currently a subset of the Seamly2D module. It will potentially be where all the marking for physical or virtual (Seamly3D) cutting will take place.

my-pattern.cloud[edit | edit source]

Currently solely developed by "MrDoo", my-pattern.cloud, (or seamly.cloud when that gets sorted out,) is the pattern-server related to the Seamly project. It is currently somewhat able to display pattern drafts, & share patterns around the globe. It is hoped that someday it will be integrated with Seamly2D to the extent that patterns can be saved to, & retrieved from, it seamlessly from the Seamly2D app.
